The Pilates Deck Immediately

Pros: Nice box, looks neat, clean, easy to stack. Few exercise accessories needed.

Cons: Wordy, & it's in a tiny font size. Many/All strange-new exercises makes it difficult to follow along & get your exercise session done. I spent 5 minutes to learn and do each exercise, and you never really master each exercise. You try and try, but either your breathing isn't right, or you'll find something to make you stop & read each card each time you do that card's exercise. This is not the way to keep your body warm and your heart rate up during an exercise session. Amazon sent me a box that had its bar code striked out with a magic marker. Usually that is done at bookstores if the product was returned.Get more detail about The Pilates Deck.

Masterpieces: The Best Science Fiction of the 20th Century Best Quality

I was really surprised by the choices included here. While there are some classic outstanding stories, those are almost without exception ones I have read before. There are more than a few completely unimpressive ones. I have been reading science fiction for more than 30 years and there were a number of authors I had never even heard of. When I read the story hoping for an undiscovered gem, I was disappointed. I really don't understand Card's choices here in most cases. Oh well, Card is assuredly more familiar with the genre than I, but I wish I hadn't bothered with this one.Get more detail about Masterpieces: The Best Science Fiction of the 20th Century.

Lowest Price The Hidden Face of God: Finding the Missing Door to the Father Through Lament

..Michael Card is one of the few who has the insight to find some. The subject of lament is a diffult one. How do we offer our tears, fustrations and sometimes anger to God as a worship offering. Michael Card deals with this subject with wisdom from the life of Job, David, Jeremiah and finally Jesus. I was fortunate to attend a retreat where Michael Card walked thirty of us through this book and the process of lament. The good news; God always shows up. When we are in a season of lament and then we come out, God's presence is finally most important.Get more detail about The Hidden Face of God: Finding the Missing Door to the Father Through Lament.

Low Price Dim Sum: 30 Flash Postcards (Irresistible Postcards)

Each of these 30 cards is a postcard. But I can't imagine you'll ever mail one, because you'll want to keep them all for yourself.

When you go to a dim sum restaurant, the waiters drive carts around and you pick-and-choose the items you want to eat. You're charged by the plate; some, obviously, are more expensive than others. However, if you're new to the dim sum experience, the choices can be overwhelming; there's just so far you can go by pointing randomly at steamed or fried lumps that look appealing. At some point, you may want to know what an item is (so that, perhaps, you can ask for it by name when it's missing).

Each of these cards has a clear picture of one of the most common items found at a dim sum restaurant, such as shrimp dumpling, glutinous rice with chicken, sesame ball. It also includes a few items that are less common, at least at the dim sum restaurants I've been to, like pig's blood congee. The card also has the Chinese characters for the item and its pronunciation (such as "ha gow" for shrimp dumpling). The whole deck is the size of a small paperback book, so you could shove this into your purse without feeling like a tourist.

Do I need this? Probably not. But it's fun. And it would be a WayCool stocking stuffer for a foodie friend. I'm sure to buy a few more for that very purpose.Get more detail about Dim Sum: 30 Flash Postcards (Irresistible Postcards).

Save A Sacred Sorrow: Reaching Out to God in the Lost Language of Lament

Michael Card is more than a gifted Christian singer-songwriter, he's also a wonderful author and teacher. Let the words of this book and the accompanying scriptures move you to express all that is in year heart, not just the "good" things you think God wants to hear, but also what is in the shadows -- fear, anger, pain, frustration, sadness.... Pouring your heart out to God could very well take your relationship with God to new heights!Get more detail about A Sacred Sorrow: Reaching Out to God in the Lost Language of Lament.

Cheap Business Capital for Women: An Essential Handbook for Entrepreneurs

As a business major at Oklahoma State University I found this book to be an awesome resource for my research. It showed me how to start my own business, create a network, gain capital not only from my family and friends but from places that I didn't even know about. The book was quite straight forward and easy to follow. So many of the statistics used throughout the book really helped me to better understand how far men are ahead of women [or so it seems]. Card even threw somethings back into your face about how women are somewhat passive and aren't as straightforward as men are. I found many facts like that throughout the book and that is what held my interest. This book truely was insightful on many levels and tells it like it is. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to own their own business or is already in their business and is in the bind of possible closer.Get more detail about Business Capital for Women: An Essential Handbook for Entrepreneurs.

Buying Once Upon a Time: Creative Writing Fun for Kids

I love these cards. I'm wondering if they might be a little "young" for an 8 year old ... but my five year old already loves writing stories (with some help) & I'm trying to encourage her to continue to write creatively. A lot of the instructional content is a bit over her head at this point - but I see us pulling these out for at least a few more years. I'm already thinking of buying a few more copies as gifts.... I'm not sure i'd buy these for an eight year old - the way they work is great - but the subject matter and characters seem of more interest to a 6 or 7 year old...Get more detail about Once Upon a Time: Creative Writing Fun for Kids.

Order The Gay Sex Deck: Sexy Tips and Wild Positions for Gay Men

I bought this because I thought it would be neat idea to reinvigorate the spice in the bedroom and the romance with my partner.

This deck would be better suited to a 17-18 year old guy who is very inexperienced with gay sex. There is not one thing out of fifty cards that my partner and I hadn't already done. I expected more of a "Kama Sutra for gay men," but my partner and I basically laughed as we went through the whole deck in 5-10 minutes.

Do you call "shaving" or "erotic wrestling" or "douching" a wild sex position or tip? Those were 3 of the cards out of the 50, and the other 47 were the same or very vanilla. Maybe I was expecting too much.

The only reason that I'm giving it 2 stars is because it was done very tastefully and the cards were made of high quality. I've dropped it 3 stars because of the lack of content. I wouldn't keep this set of cards, even if they were free.Get more detail about The Gay Sex Deck: Sexy Tips and Wild Positions for Gay Men.

Where To Buy Busted Flush (Wild Cards)

Busted Flush continues the adventures of next generation of Wild Cards, with a few of the originals in pivotal roles. All of them are survivors of the deadly alien Joker virus that triggers strange deformities and powerful abilities, and most of whom work for various governments as authorized superheroes or weapons. It's set in a 10 degree variant universe, wherein American Hero is a Survivor-style show for testing/recruiting new Wild Cards, the U.S. President is named Kennedy, the Attorney General is Hilary Rodham, and fuel from the Mideast costs 300 dollars a barrel, so not many people are driving cars; and evidently our politicians are still clueless and ineffective, because no one is producing ethanol from hemp. If only Arizona could send Leslie Fish to the Senate.
The "Double Helix" pieces are by Melinda Snodgrass, who wrote The Edge of Reason last year. Teleporting hermaphrodite British Interpol ace Noel leads a duplicitous life as a double-agent. As assassin Bahir, he spies on/works for/sabotages the United Arab Emirate's Prince Siraj, the man who sets the prices on oil. As Lilith, she spies on/works for/sabotages the Committee, the organization which directs superhero activities of Aces on this side of the pond. Lilith is sexy and snarky; Bahir is by turn respectful and flippant with authority figures; but Noel is trying to cope with a dying dad and accumulated self-loathing.
"Could, Would, Shoulda," penned by Caroline Spector, follows the activities of Bubbles, who has PTSD from her rescue work in Egypt and a troubled relationship with her girlfriend, but still has the heart to visit young jokers and aces kept in hospitals or other holding facilities. She befriends a Wild Card named Niobe, after the Greek queen who grieved inconsolably for the death of all her 14 children. Niobe births fully activated Wild Cards every time she breeds, but all her children die in a matter of days.
Niobe also shares the "Political Science" storyline with 13 year old Blake, who mysteriously survived a nuclear explosion in a two-bit, played-out oil town in Texas. Blake's reaction to the Joker virus is just emerging, and when it proves to be out of control, he's slated for termination. Niobe and her children bust Blake out, but they inadvertently release some of the most dangerous criminal Jokers on the planet, and the Committee sends some of its finest to clean up the ensuing mess. Ian Tregellis and Walton Simons write this story arc, and John Jos. Miller gets to tell more of it in "Mortality's Strong Hand."
"Just Cause," by Carrie Vaughn, follows Committee members Ana, Kate, and Tinker, who specialize in mitigating natural disasters. Kate is involved in a romantic triangle with her boss, John "Fortune" Tipton-Clarke, and fellow Ace Michael, aka Drummer Boy, who gets his own storyline in "Dirge in a Major Key" by Stephen Leigh.
Kevin Andrew Murphy's "The Tears of Nephritus" follows the senior Ace, Ellen, who can channel the memories and abilities of others if she has something of theirs to hold onto. Too bad for Ellen - she's in love with a ghost.
Victor Milan writes the other sections, giving each its own title. These are the darkest, since his focus is the politics of genocide and power plays, featuring the seemingly indestructible shadow Ace, The Radical.

George Martin edited but did not actually write any of the storylines that are woven together to make up Busted Flush, which I will only forgive if he is working on another Tuff Voyaging story. That being said, his touch at the helm is sure, and the actual authors do this series fantastic justice. It's the literary equivalent of The Traveling WillburysGet more detail about Busted Flush (Wild Cards).

The Chakra Deck: 50 Cards for Promoting Spiritual and Physical Health (Relax and Rejuvenate)

This is a lovely introduction to Chakras. Not info.overload, just what you need to know to get started and to feel great.

I loved my hatha yoga practice, but now I have a knee injury!! For a long time I was feeling out of touch with my body, unable to practice. Then I discovered Kundalini yoga, which is more spiritual and has many poses from an easy sitting position. (I have a DVD of a Kundalini practice). Serendipitously I was trying to relax while falling asleep one night, and instinctively did a kind of dissolving/release of tension meditation. I slept so peacefully that night, in the morning I thought I'd try and find out a bit more about chakras, seeing as they are also about opening up and increasing energy flow etc. So, I got this deck!! Didn't you want to know all that!?

Anyway, the deck. It's great...easy to use, nicely designed, nice exercises most of which won't irritate my knee. Many of the yoga positions derive from Kundalini (the yoga consultant being a Kundalini teacher-Kundalini, as I kind of understand it, focuses on balancing all the chakras and reaching the top chakra, opening a connection to the divine). Perhaps my favorite thing is the fusion of yoga, breathwork and visualization that these exercises promote. There's also a little chanting involved, if you're up for it!

I recommend this for anyone wishing to deepen their yoga practice with a more meditative/spiritual slant. You could choose one 'chakra' to focus on at the end of a yoga session, or build a yoga session around the positions already supplied for each chakra. I also recommend it for people (like me!) who love yoga/exercise, but can't do it because of some physical impairment. It's really more meditative than physical (although the 'body drops' will build up heat) but it's better than nothing. It's just nice to be moving. I especially recommend this for older people, perhaps with arthritis, or anyone with disabilities. I also think it'd be perfect for anyone seeking relief from depression and anxiety.

Just so you know there are 50 cards. Each chakra has three yoga poses and one meditation suggestion (as well as two introductory cards). The last card is about the 'aura', the 'eighth' chakra. My only very minor gripe with the deck was that, in visualizing your chakras, do you visualize them spinning, glowing, opening, or what?? At one point it said 'vibrating,' which seems a bit enigmatic. Instinctively I want to go with 'opening,' and whether or not it really matters, I don't know.

A nice compliment to this deck (even though it doesn't mention chakras) is 'Kundalini Yoga to detox and destress' with Maya Fiennes.

Spa Deck This instant

The Spa Deck is a fairly simple way to learn about essential oils and their various uses and benefits. Once you make a few of the recipes, you learn how to modify them to suit your own particular needs. You also learn how to use essential oils in other parts of your beauty regimen and in other household cleaning activities.

At first, the Spa Deck seems daunting, because, as one reviewer noted, few people have these basic supplies in their houses. Each recipe calls for at least two different essential oils, and most require the use of various-sized glass bottles with stoppers, coffee grinders, strainers or other implements.

However, you can ignore the more complicated coffee-grinder and French-press recipes at first. You'll soon realize that once you assemble a basic set of essential oils and a few sizes of glass bottles, you can really get a great deal out of the Spa Deck. You can make several of the recipes for hair treatments, soothing facial washes and aromatic bath soaks. As you become more and more familiar with the oils and their effects, you realize that you can substitute one essential oil for another or make do with the supplies that you have on hand. You can also slowly add to your arsenal of supplies, as your budget allows.

I think the Neroli Complexion Serum, which requires one 1/2-ounce bottle and six different types of oil is so soothing and effective that it's worth it to buy the whole Spa Deck just for that recipe alone.

The Card: Collectors, Con Men, and the True Story of History's Most Desired Baseball Card Get it now!

It doesn't really go into the history of The Card (T206 Wagner) before 1985. That's a lot of missing years, and the story could have used more investigation. That being said, this book is a real fun read for people in the hobby. This book details the who's who in the field, and all their positive and negative contributions and personalities. Also, it introduces the reader to both the good and bad of so-called
"authentication services" that perform grading on cards.

Overall, it is an entertaining book that you will enjoy and learn from. I just wish more dirt digging was performed on the true history of the Wagner card.Get more detail about The Card: Collectors, Con Men, and the True Story of History's Most Desired Baseball Card.

Cheapest Robota

This book is a short science fiction story and art book interleaved - art on one side, story on the other. Clearly this is a work of love and inspiration - like a modern illuminated manuscript. I really like it, but I wish it was longer, and I can't give the story itself a flawless rating. Doug Chiang (who envisioned Star Wars Episodes 1-3 for Lucas) was impressive throughout, but some of the scenes were somewhat plain/boring in only the way that grandiose things can be. Four and a half stars, with reservations about scoring it at all given its unusual nature. It's Orson Scott Card, writing for an art book that looks like the Phantom Menace should have. ?!?Get more detail about Robota.

Buy The Yoga Deck

I first purchased both The Yoga Deck and The Yoga Deck II about 8 years ago at a Crate & Barrel of all places.
It was my first introduction to Yoga, something that I could do at my own pace, on my own time and in my own space. It's great to be able to go through the cards, find the ones you like the most and create your very own specialised deck of Yoga stretches.

It can be a little clunky sometimes, trying to stretch, completing the stretch and then having to shuffle some cards around to get to the next move. If you have them lying on a carpet, sometimes they can get a little slip and slide-y. But this is only a problem until you've selected a routine that works for you and have it memorized, eliminating the cards altogether.

**I came to Amazon to try and replace my original Yoga Deck, as I had mistakenly loaned it to a friend; upon return 25 cards (half of the deck) was missing. -
I refuse to purchase the cards from either Amazon or any of the independent sellers, though. They're insanely overpriced. The cheapest listed is $11.07, and most of the "used" items are described as a books. I don't trust a seller who can't properly describe their item. The Yoga Decks are PRE-priced by their distributor for $14.95. So, in my opinion, anyone who is charging more than $14.95 is completely ripping you off for a deck of cards almost 10 years old.**

To be honest, I grew tired of these cards quickly. I find it to be more beneficial to find a good book or video instruction and follow along with that. It's easier to listen and stretch than it is to read and stretch... successfully. - But a fun deck to own regardless.Get more detail about The Yoga Deck.

Save Shadow Puppets

Shadow Puppets continues the story of Bean, a genetically engineered prodigy who navigates a gauntlet of political intrigue and personal danger while attempting to save the world from a sociopathic adversary. If you've read some of the reviews on this site, you probably already know that. It's probably also safe to say that if you enjoyed Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon, you won't be disappointed with this effort. That said, it's become very hard for me to overlook the grist of Card's personal beliefs, despite the entertaining quality of his stories.

Before I continue, let me make it clear that I believe all individuals have the liberty to express their opinions, whether or not I agree with them. This is a book review, and as such, I am only bringing attention to the author's beliefs because they show up repeatedly in his writing and undermined the quality of my reading experience. If you happen to share Mr. Card's opinions, then you won't share any of the misgivings I experienced and are likely to enjoy the story immensely.

The crux of my problem lies within some of Card's Mormon-centric views about family and homosexuality that, while not omnipresent throughout his work, form the basis for some "purpose of life" quandaries that motivate his characters' behavior. Before I continue, let's make it clear that this isn't a baseless accusation - googling the words Scott, Card, homosexuality, and family values yields a wealth of information, including articles he has written for the Latter-day Saints that include titles like "The Hypocrites of Homosexuality".

You may have noticed touches of this sentiment sprinkled throughout the Ender's series - the instinctual drive toward getting married and starting a family that overwhelms many of the main characters (Valentine, Ender, Ender's children, Bean, etc.); the anger characters exhibit toward laws governing reproductive rights; the setting up of cynical characters like Ender and Bean (paper tigers) who receive spiritual wisdom and subsequent enlightenment from ancillary characters speaking in Card's voice.

If you didn't notice these things and think I'm just speculating blindly, note following advice given to Bean by an old Russian scientist (who may or may not be gay) who laments that he pursued academic achievement over the will to procreate:

"Even men who do not desire women, even women who do not desire men, this does not exempt them from the deepest desire of all, the desire to be an inextricable part of the human race...it's hard-wired into all of us. Not just sexual desire - that can be twisted any which way, and it often is...it's a deep hunger to find a person from that strange, terrifyingly other sex and make a life together...there's still a hunger for this. For actual marriage, two unlike creatures becoming, as best they can, one."
"[This is] The thing that makes us civilized or at least civilizable. And those who are cut off from it by their own desires, by those twists and bends that turn them in another way...those who are cut off because they think they want to be cut off, they are still hungry for it - hungrier than ever, especially if they deny it."

And you know what? In Card's written universe, these words are absolutely true. Inevitably, protagonists who want the happy ending must, must, must go forth, marry, and have progeny or else die alone and forgotten. And this truth makes it hard for me to continue reading his work.Get more detail about Shadow Puppets.
