I wanted to make business cards at home, that looked and felt good, and that would allow a great color photo picture to be used on the card with my information. I selected the Avery Linen-Textured Two-Side Clean Edge Business Cards for Inkjet Printers, Matte, White, Pack of 200 (08873) - and after working with templates and WORD to design my card, I've been really happy with the results.

My cards are full color, one sided (even though you can print on both sides of these). The "linen" texture is only on one side, but if you print a nice color picture on the texture side with your business/contact information (my card has a color picture that fills the whole card space) then leaving the back white actually makes the card look even sharper, in my opinion.

I tried to print my high quality photo (with information) on these cards using a laser printer, an HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer, and I was not happy with the photo quality on these cards (or on any stock for that matter). So, I am using a color photo inkjet now, and I'm really happy with the results. My inkjet is not too fancy, a Canon PIXMA iP6220D Photo Printer, but the results look really nice. I use the highest quality photo print setting, and I tell it that this paper is "matte photo paper" and it all works!

The laser perforated edges on all four sides of the cards snap away cleanly. You don't rip or cut or tear these cards apart, you print them, and snap them apart. This worked much better than I would have imagined. You can not see the that these were snapped apart - the final product looks great.

Why not 5 stars then? I wish these were just a tad heavier. They are not cheap or flimsy as some reviewers suggest, but they are not as stiff (thick) as some cards. Good for the task, found my self having to buy 4 more refill packages to fill this to a level that would hold all my cards and still have plenty more room for future business cards. Does not come with enough card holders IMO.
Quality is there, I do expect this to last a life time for me and will hold up to the daily use I put it through. Do wonder if a covered unit might not have been better? only to keep the dust off of it.

The be very afraid review is spot on. The comments about the planted reviews are too (when someone makes up a pseudonym for a review with the word "honest" in it, you know it's a plant). Yes, it's cheap, and a lot of people seem happy to deal with all kinds of shuck and jive, and it is cheap (until anything decent works).

I mainly wanted to add my opinion motivated by the horrible thought that this might be a kid's "first telescope". This is not something I want my kid exposed to or values I want him to learn. The only word for the management is slimy. You never come away from an interaction without feeling dirty or cheapened. It is too bad that people like that had to take over and sink what was a good idea.

There used to be good people at SLOOH. Those folks, like Matt Bendaniel, and Tierney O'Dea will have nothing to do with it at all and are no longer members. Why would former officers not be members? Either it was just another job (contrary to the verbiage), or they no longer find there what they originally joined for.

I joined on advice of a friend, that has since regretted joining. She put it pretty simply. "In August of 2007, disgusted at another bright comet going to far south to observe, I joined SLOOH. They were advertising the Chile observatory, which would be perfect. It is now November, 2009. I have never once observed a comet that went too far south to observe. One still cannot make reservations on Chile or Australia. That's all I wanted. I've wasted two years and two memberships, and they have not changed their verbiage, not one word."

Recently these concerns were put to them but no less than the Royal Greenwich Observatory. According to their website royalgreenwichastro.co.uk, SLOOH canceled their membership, no refund given. The comment about "Jackass" was very much on the money!

I have seen some of the negative reviews and my guess is they tried to use them with ink jet printers (print quality issues) or low-end printers (feed problems). I use good quality HP color laser printers and I have never had a feed problem, nor a color bleed problem. The printing does not wear off of them like on some other business card stock. And the weight of the card stock is equivalent to decent quality business cards. The edges break cleanly - no indications that the cards were made from sheets.
